Department Information

 

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates and advances institutional initiatives in support of institutional rankings, including expertise in rankings and methodologies, managing processes, collaborating with stakeholders, and communication efforts internally
2. Provides project and data support for the Data Strategy Leadership Team priorities, including analytics, data governance, and process improvement
3. Ensures alignment with IT support structures, collaboration tools, and governance to optimize data strategy effectiveness
4. Collaborates with stakeholders to define requirements, to ensure compliance, and to align with stated objectives
5. Engages with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to communicate project status, solicit feedback, and address concerns
6. Maintains accurate documentation of policies, procedures, and standards

Job Summary

 

Aggregates and performs statistical analysis on data based on requests from Cabinet or division leadership.  Interprets data to identify trends, conduct root cause analysis or suggest areas of improvement.  Design, develop and maintain analytical tools, reports and dashboards.  Supports the overall Division level strategic plan and data related initiatives.

Responsibilities

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support division and underlying offices by providing accurate data to support decision making and functional activities including generating recurring or ad hoc reports
2. Maintains analytical tools, reporting and dashboards, including but not limited to maintenance of data to support analytics needs and ensuring accuracy and consistency of key data sets, reports and metrics
3. Completes monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting and data analysis
4. Responds to data requests from division and underlying offices
5. Develops queries and/or gathers data from various sources; in addition, may interpret the data to provide value added analysis
6. Conducts data analysis and discovery to identify trends and correlations to uncover insights
7. Recommends information that should be analyzed based on key indicators, works to determine root cause, and/or identify areas of concern
8. Audits data, validates calculations and troubleshoots irregularities; supports data governance process
9. Utilize predictive analytics to identify trends and provide counsel to departments
10. Produces and delivers standard and customized reports, dashboards and ad-hoc requests based on business need
11. Assists with continual process improvements by researching methods to continue to automate and streamline processes
12. Responsible for addressing a high volume of system-related activities in a timely fashion while consistently maintaining a high level of quality and customer satisfaction
13. Uses available tools and resource materials to provide information and resolve issues and requests
14. Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders across campus, including working closely with the Office of University Data Strategy to maintain alignment with overall university data strategy

Required Qualifications

 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Statistics, Business Analytics, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Required Experience
Five (5) years of experience in Data Analysis preferably in an academic setting Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make effective decisions

Preferred Qualifications

 

Preferred Experience
Prior experience in data management and/or business intelligence software such as SAS, Tableau or Power BI.
Experience in maintaining and creating documentation and effectively explaining requirements
Project Management Experience

Additional Education Requirements
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Proficient with querying data, data interpretation and report generation
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis on Excel, PeopleSoft, Nolij)

Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
