Job Summary

 

Supplemental Instruction Leaders are viewed as academic student leaders, model students, and are significant contributors to the University of West Georgia community. We believe SI Leaders provide motivation for learning and act as a role model to their fellow peers. As members of the Center for Academic Success staff, SI Leaders:

  • Attend the class that they are the SI leader for
  • Conduct 2-3 SI sessions per week to engage and enhance learning concepts
  • Conduct an office hour
  • Conduct planning sessions for their sessions
  • Attend 2 trainings per month.


This is not a Teaching Assistant position or tutoring position, and does not have any teaching duties. SI leaders are supervised by and report to the Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction in the Center for Academic Success. SI Leaders are selected on the basis of faculty recommendation, academic skill, leadership, character, and the ability to communicate well with others. We expect that SI Leaders will have a positive perspective of the University of West Georgia.

Required Qualifications

 
  • Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours. 
  • Overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or faculty referred for the specific SI Course/Subject. 
  • Must have earned a grade of "A" in the course. 
  • Must successfully complete a background check. 
  • SI Leaders for Fall 2024 must be available to attend a full two day training in person on Monday and Tuesday, August 12th and 13th.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 
  • SI Leaders are expected to have adequate knowledge of the subject they are hired to facilitate and the ability to communicate that knowledge to their peers.

 

Working Conditions

  • SI Leaders are required to attend the class that they are the SI Leader for, so the class must work within your course schedule.
